How to Accept Rutgers Admission
Once accepted to Rutgers University, you must accept your admission offer either through your application portal or visiting the Counselors’ Information Center.
Rutgers University offers an easy application process that takes only minutes. Your chance to show the admissions team you’re ready to begin your degree is now!
Pay Your Fees
At Rutgers University, the admissions process requires you to pay your application fees and submit other credentials required by the program for which you’re applying. You can pay these fees online, at a Student Services Hub location or by visiting an IMPACT Booth located in Campus Center.
During the application process, you may opt to enroll in the Tuition Payment Plan (RUTPP). RUTPP is an interest-free monthly payment plan that helps make tuition and fees more manageable over time.
You can pay your application fees with either a credit card or bank account. When making the online payment, be sure to include both your account number and routing number. If neither are available or if your bank does not accept electronic debits, Web Check can be used instead.
Once you’ve paid your application fees, you can check the status of your application from within your Application Portal. If accepted, you’ll receive a confirmation email which allows you to accept their offer of admission and begin enrollment.
If you need assistance with paying your application fees or the payment process, reach out to the Student Business Services Office in B-203. The staff here can assist with making payments and answer any queries regarding your upcoming arrival at Rutgers.
Students in good standing must pay their full fees by the published due date each term to avoid late fees. If you’re unable to make full payment by this deadline, you may enroll in a Deferred Payment Plan which allows you to pay 50% of your fees before the published due date.
You can pay your fees with a credit card through TouchNet PayPath, an external vendor we partner with for payment processing. The service is available 24/7/365. A convenience fee of 2.75% of the total amount charged will be applied to your credit card.
You may choose to pay your application fees in person at Student Business Services in B-203. All that’s necessary for payment is your name, address and valid photo ID.
Check Your Application Status
If you’re thinking of applying to Rutgers, it is essential that you are aware of your application status. Doing this will let you know when your application is complete and when to expect a decision from Rutgers.
Check your application status using the Application Dashboard of the Rutgers Application Portal. Here you will find up-to-date information regarding your application and admissions process, such as when we have received transcripts and test scores.
Rutgers offers a highly competitive admissions process, and to be admitted you must meet both their GPA requirements and SAT/ACT scores. Therefore, it is recommended that you aim for the top 20% of your high school class if you wish to be accepted there.
Increase your odds of acceptance to Rutgers University by participating in “Tier 1” extracurricular activities that demonstrate leadership, merit and exceptional talent. Examples include national awards, international competitions and leadership positions that gain prestigious recognition.
Another way to make your application stand out is by writing an original, short essay about yourself and a topic that interests you. This will allow the admissions committee to get to know you as a person and what value you have to offer the university.
Choose from multiple short essay prompts designed to get a feel for your personality and writing style. This is an excellent chance for you to showcase your strengths, show off your character, and write with an authentic voice that can effectively express your thoughts.
The short essay is the ideal place for you to explain why you’re interested in Rutgers and what makes you unique. Additionally, this essay gives you an opportunity to share your story and demonstrate how past experiences have shaped who you are today.
To check your application status, log in with both RUID and CommunityID – separate accounts created when applying to Rutgers. Having a CommunityID will make accessing your application dashboard much simpler.
Wait for the Decision
While you wait for the decision, it can be hard to stay positive. But remember: making the best choice possible is essential. Here are a few steps you can take in order to aid in making that right choice.
Start by taking a break from the decision process and focusing on other things. Doing this can give you an entirely new perspective on the problem, making it much simpler to make an informed decision.
You can also ask someone you trust for assistance or advice. If they have made similar decisions before, having their insight and viewpoint can be beneficial.
Rutgers University’s admissions process is holistic and considers your whole application, including essays, extracurricular activities, recommendations and more. As a selective university, applicants must possess an impressive academic record to be considered for admission.
It’s essential to remember that the admissions process at Rutgers may take more time than other colleges. This is because their admissions committees have many students to evaluate and must evaluate each applicant individually.
The wait list can be a stressful time, but you don’t have to let it ruin your college dreams. There are ways you can keep stress levels down such as paying a deposit for your second choice school and staying positive throughout the process.
If you’re uncertain which school to select, applying for early action might be your best bet. While this plan does not guarantee admission to Rutgers, it will allow you to consider other institutions and apply at a later date.
In addition to early action, you may qualify for regular decision if you meet certain criteria. These requirements include an above-average SAT or ACT score, a strong high school GPA, and evidence of extracurricular activities.
By the fall application deadline, you can apply for early action. Your admissions decision will not be final until January 31. Upon receiving notification that your admission status has been accepted or denied, placed on a wait list, or deferred to regular decision, your status will become official.
Accept the Offer
Once you receive your admissions decision, it is time to accept and pay the $150 acceptance fee through your Rutgers application portal. After paying this fee, you will gain access to important information regarding course registration, housing/dining, financial aid/billing, final transcripts/new student orientation and more in your myRutgers dashboard.
You can also download checklists with all the important dates you should know. These can be an excellent way to stay organized and monitor your responsibilities in the months ahead.
The SAT and ACT both feature an optional essay section that can significantly influence your score. Whether or not the school you’re applying to requires this, it’s something worth considering in your testing strategy.
Though not required for admission to Rutgers University, students who score higher on both the SAT and ACT tests tend to have a better chance of acceptance than those with lower scores.
Rutgers University considers a SAT score of 1300 as moderately competitive. The 25th percentile SAT score at Rutgers is 1190, and the 75th percentile SAT score is 1410.
At Rutgers University, an ACT score of 27 or higher makes you a highly sought-after applicant. On average, admitted students receive an ACT score of 28.
Takening the SAT or ACT is the best way to increase your chances of being accepted to your top choice schools. It’s wise to start practicing for this exam early in high school; using our free SAT and ACT prep guides can help you prepare and maximize your score potential!
